My photo a day blog

Dhobi

I took this on my iPhone on my way back from the gym. This is where all our clothes get ironed. The person who does this is called a “Dhobi”. It’s a cruddy picture, but oh well. Glad this theme is over with :)

Fake Park

High Resolution

This is a fake park that is a part of the Dussera setup. I realize these aren’t actually people, but whatever. I asked my mother why all the dolls are of white blondes (and one weird blue haired person) instead of Indian people, and I found her answer to be interesting. Apparently you basically can’t find dolls of Indian people. They’re all white blondes or brunettes. I wonder why this is. Perhaps it’s just that these dolls are manufactured at scale for the entire world in one place?

Golfers

High Resolution

I woke up this morning to a wonderful view of the golf course. I saw these golfers pass by the tee off area in the photo, but they were gone by the time I had my camera ready. I waited for a while and saw them struggling in the sand a little further away.

I haven’t yet had a chance to take a swing on the course (my clubs are still on their way here), but hopefully it’ll be me in that frame a few weeks from now (well, except for the whole struggling in the sand part).

Gardening

High Resolution

We were all pretty tired after our dose party, so we went to Eagleton on Sunday to relax. We drove over (I had to drive the stick shift Ertiga for the first time in a long time. I’m pleased to report that I had no problems with it, so yay) in the morning. I went jogging/walking with Rosco for a couple of hours, spent some time in the Jacuzzi and just lazed around. It was a fun and relaxing Sunday.

My father likes to think he has gardening skills sometimes. He only ever does one thing though, and it’s this. He likes pruning shrubs in the Eagleton backyard. I doubt he knows what he’s doing, but he’s clearly having fun and the plants seem to survive, so it’s all good.

Dose Party

High Resolution

Usually sometime during Dussera my parents throw a Dose party. In the evening, we get a cook to come and make dosas and invite a bunch of people over to eat them. Several of our friends and family came over this year as well. It was great catching up with several people I hadn’t seen in a long, long time and saying hi to the folks I do see somewhat regularly. I also met a few people I hadn’t met before, so that was nice.

This is a photo of my uncle, aunt, grand uncle and grand aunt sitting on the awesome swing on our front porch. I often spend time lying on that swing and playing games on my iPhone while Rosco eats his dinner. It also turns out to be the place where most of our family conversations happen. For better or worse, despite my best efforts I’ve been unable to get decent wifi in that area, so it means that none of us can use our phones out there :)
